Mama I made it!

If you read my blog you know I recently was apart of LongLiveGogoDC’s Mumbo Connection Fashion Show at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Not only did I walk in my first fashion show but had the opportunity to have my own scene to present my brand as well. It was a last minute opportunity I wasn’t gonna pass up. Its the Kennedy Center, I couldn't be shy or timid. When I got the call the week of, I already knew 7/8 looks that I wanted to pull off when I was only give 5 but when I pulled up to practice they saw much more potential and bumped me up into my own scene. Sometimes you gotta stay ready so you aint gotta get ready. I’m forever grateful. Nonetheless the Show was Dope! We had a great group of models and brands that all worked and meshed well together. DC Mayor hopeful and comedian Red Grant hosted the show. Cant really picture him as Mayor of my city but anything better than ol Mumbo hating Muriel…

I killed the first half of the show with my “G.O.O.N.S.” scene full of Ski masks, Custom Jerseys, Army Fatigue, and Camouflage. New Impressionz rocked the second half of the show, playing all me and Ash’s favorite hits. Ashlee, her GMa and my Sister were front row supporting me taking photos while I took care of the behind the scenes modeling for the other brands. To only have two practices beforehand, we did an amazing job as a unit and much appreciation to Kelsey and her team that made this event a highlight of my career. Not too many people can say they presented their brand at the Kennedy Center. Hell, that was my first time inside the building as long as I’ve lived here, so I made sure to take it all in and explore as much as I could.

Im extremely proud of myself and eager to create more opportunities like this for myself and my peers. The DMV is so small and so creative, shedding light on the people who have been influential in our culture and continue to innovate is something I’d like to do more often and not just some random 40 under 40 list but really giving people their flowers on a grand scale. what that grand scale may be is still up in the air but the idea is brewing. Gotta give a major shoutout to Ash for her unwavering support 7 months pregnant and all. She gave me her car for the week because mine was broken into during our last fashion show practice. Made sure I was on time and stayed the entire show in her GOONS DEPT. sweatsuit. She’s a Superwoman and I couldn’t have done it without her. Also another major shoutout to Ciera my little sister for photographing everything while I handled business. I am nothing without those who support my every move. Thank you again and trust me there’s so much more to come!
