Keep the Beat Week

Last week was DC’s week dedicated to Go-Go Music the official music of the nations capital. Im kickin off Women’s history month with Mayor Bowser’s initiative to keep Go-Go music alive and the Alumni had the pleasure of Hosting an All woman panel of the leading ladies of the Go-Go scene. Headed by @JustCuriousPoe of Wpgc 95.5, Sweet Thang of Backyard, Kacey of Black Alley, @MizzBlackwell, @QueenSongBirdKimise, as well fellow Morgan alum DJ Heat and a few other notable women figures of the culture.

The panel discussed the past, present, and future of Go-Go from a female perspective. The struggles of women growing in the Go-Go scene, and the love of the Art form the city has embraced as our own and how we can foster even more growth of Go-Go in the future with the up and coming women of Go-Go like J’Ta and many others who still love the sound of Go-Go.

I had the pleasure of being the Photobooth photographer and capturing some moments of the event. It was truly great to see the sisterhood of these amazing artists talk and reminiscing on their truths and highlights over the years. Hearing Sweet thang sing her “Hello” Adele cover, and catching up with Kacey whom put me in my first music video as an extra for Black Alley’s “Artist Prayer” video way back in 2013. An Overall Great night for the Culture, and Go-Go Music. Great vibes, Food, and Fellowship. Shoutout to the Mayor’s office for throwing an amazing event and also a shoutout to all that was involved.
