I always think it’s dope shining light on black folk in the fashion industry. Courtney Mays has been a top stylist for years now and Chris Paul’s personal stylist. One of many stylist taking the NBA by storm. Ten years ago what NBA players wore to their games and press conferences were atrocious, now it’s big business. There’s social media pages, blogs, and endless posts just focusing on NBA pregame fits. Players like Lebron, PJ Tucker, and Kyle Kuzma being known for their off the court style, and shoe game are both a testimony to how dedicated their stylists are and how much influence style has on the game and culture now. Courtney Mays is pushing the culture forward with her tailored suiting, athleisure aesthetics, and attention to details mixing High and low price points.

Styling is big business and always has been but we haven’t always had the biggest influence in this industry, even though everyone knows black people invented style. Chris Paul putting someone who usually plays the background, and makes their clients the most important looking person in the room, into the spotlight for once is a great thing and shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Personal styling is one of my many passions that I will work on this year and things like this motivate me to be better and strive for greatness. Seeing these faces that look like mine in positions I want to be in is imperative to knowing my goals are possible and within my reach, I just have to put the work in and prepare for greatness when it comes.
