Washington Leadership Academy Media Director
This Fall I was appointed to a new position at WLA where I am a Dedicated Aide and Assistant Boys Basketball Coach! I took on the role of Media Director, focusing on Content Creation, Media Coverage for all Sports and School Events, as well as teaching a course on Photography, Videography, Media Literacy, as well as Content Creation to students who have an interest in the Media field. A new creative leadership program that is already impacting the lives of the students here at Washington Leadership Academy.
A new career path involving the kids and continuing to pursue my passion for Photography, and Videography. Just as much as I pour into these kids they return the favor giving me insight on how the youth think and live in a new generation of technology and influence. Not only is this role needed in the school its giving kids another career path they may have not known even existed. Putting cameras in their hands and teaching them the skills and some even unknown talents they are just realizing. Giving back to my community is a major factor in my life as I had role models growing up and coaches that looked out for my future I intend to do the same for the generation growing up now as well as for my own kids. Never thought in a million years it would be through teaching and coaching but I am not surprised by the impact made already in the few kids I have encountered in just the two years I have been here at WLA.
Organizing the Media Days, Creating highlight reels for the sports teams and players, creating roles for students to photograph, commentate games, and be more engaged in their school’s extracurricular activities. Not to mention assisting with the Basketball Program that is rebuilding and recently sponsored by Under Armour, and chosen to represent the city in the Washington Wizard’s High School Double Header Series playing at the Capitol One Arena. And that’s just a few things I wish I had when I was their age that we’ve been able to provide this year.
