Last night Hanifa.co released her Pink label Congo collection and the show has taken fashion tech and marketing to a new level! The show featured Anifa’s jaw dropping drapery and details on computer rendered models that flattered curves and accentuated the “Black” female body. Ground breaking tech with a humanitarian purpose behind it. Focusing on the corruption and hardships of The Congolese people who are forced to mine minerals for the world’s cell phone industry where over 60% of the planets source of this miners lies. Anifa being of Congolese decent explained her purpose behind the line and how she can use her platform to bring awareness to her culture and the issues tearing apart her home country. She’s had her clothes work by everyone from Lizzo to Kylie Jenner and featured in Essence, Team Vogue and Co-signed by Edward Enninful and Anna Wintour. Anifa is the 🐐!
Paying Homage
When I was a Freshman in college at 18 I saw Morgan State as a fashion show everyday as people wore their best outfits to 8am classes, hair done, make up beat, and I just couldn’t fathom putting that much focus on looks at the time cause I was an Engineering Major flooded with math courses. So I said fuck it Im gonna stick to the basics and load up on Polo Tees to stay fresh. A fresh tee everyday for maybe like 4 months.

This contest was one of the best ideas I’ve had this year and really connected a lot of artists and art enthusiast to not only the brand but to dope artists not only around the area DMV area but the world! The goal was to network and fuel collaboration through art and not some marketing ploy to gain from unbeknownst consumers. The entire competition was organic and just a creative way to pass the time. I’ve been inspired by so many one liners through rap music it was only right I pay homage to some of the quotes that push me through any negative situation. A lot of times we dissect the lyrics of songs and attribute them to our own lives as affirmations or reminders that we are great, life could be worse, or to not care at all. Even the song “I don’t stress” is a “guaranteed get out of a shitty mood” song for me. So I figured why not create something that fuses fashion and that inspiration into something I can wear and inspire others.

Lets see who can draw their best interpretation of what a “Goon” is to them! As we all are shut in due to the Covid-19 epidemic I had an idea to collaborate with artists as well as put some money in someones pocket, all while promoting the brand and creativity. The Artwork doesn’t have to be Michelangelo’s Sistine chapel, or a drawing at all, if you have a slogan or t shirt design that you want to get off, submit that as well. Im looking at this as everyone’s chance to be a designer for a day and create a new revenue stream through social distancing as well as social networking. One of the most important parts of running a brand is knowing that everything you do reflects your brand and the reputation of your brand. So when you have an authentic, organic, fan base that relates to your brand’s authenticity and then switch up it confuses the consumer. Being consistent and brand focused is key in growth and expanding to new consumers who may not know your previous work but if you are consistent there’s no question or confusion as to what your brand offers.

Tomorrow the second Cartoon Capsule collection will release. An ode to one of my favorite movies as a kid, “Bebe’s Kids”. Putting a spin on the movie’s motto “We Bebe’s Kids we don’t die, we multiply” and using hand drawn characters by my bro Mike Mike he did for me a few years ago.
Ugly Xmas Sweater SZN
Yesterday I had the pleasure of creating a Ugly Sweater for my Good men Nick and Hoffa of Stamped Mob. They throw lit ass functions every month so I usually get to print customs for them all the time. This instance was just hilarious because on one hand I have creative free will to create for Nick, and on the other I got Hoffa getting me to create possibly the funniest ugly sweater I’ve ever seen! Ill let you guys be the judge of that though.
Flashback Friday
Two years ago this week I graduated from Mastered as a Fashion Stylist! Seems just yesterday I was hustlin for tuition each month and complaining about the lack of classmates in the area. Being in an online program that had you do group projects with people coming from two n three states away is a task in itself. All in all it was a great experience and I wouldn’t trade the knowledge gained for anything. The biggest plus of being a Mastered Alumni is the network of talent that you can still contact and connect with, as well as the star studded group of instructors that we learned from.
